Heartland Classics 2024 Hot Springs Classic on Lake Hamilton
 April 19 and 20, 2024

with a pre-event on April 18th on Lake Ouachita

The SPRING opener for boating season in the Heartland happened in the beautiful lush green Natural State.

Those who could take advantage of the Pre-Event on Lake Ouachita had the best boating day with a partly sunny sky and wide open calm waters.     …..     Thanks to Pam Clark and Marilyn Davenport for the great photos.

1961 Owens “Pu Haps” led the way.

1966 Bertram joined the group.

Local 1966 Bertram joined the group.

1958 Century Coronado “Love Me Timber” is always a head-turner.

This “almost a Late Classic” Chris Craft is always full of friends.

Lunch stop of Shangri-La at Thompkins Bend.

That’s where you order pie first.

— then you order the rest of your lunch before returning to classic boating.

Fireside Chat at Mountain Harbor Marina, the host lodging at Ouachita.

So many side interests get shared among “old boat friends”.

Friday morning of the Classic Weekend was a time to launch boats at Lake Hamilton and boat to Lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf, a favorite tradition.

The weather was chillier!  But spirits were high as old friends greeted each other and welcomed a cluster of new members.

About 40 members made up the weekend gathering starting at Fisherman’s Wharf.

Spinharney’s 1969 Chris Craft XK-19 joined the cruise.

The only Switzer Craft in the Chapter debuted with a flourish.

This 1994 Donzi added to the “Late Classic” interesting class.

“Sea Rafter” a 1953 Chris Craft Riviera is at home on Lake Hamilton.

Friday evening’s “best pizza ever” was worth the climb.

Well, it was April in Arkansas.  So a cool rainy day just had to make it’s appearance on Saturday.

But the gathering for food and visiting continued – no gloom included.

Instead of lunch on the dock, Clay and Patty prepared our delicious lunch in a tent and served us all in their spacious garage.

Three generations of Showalters enjoyed the weekend. Their Glastron CVX did go cruising later Saturday afternoon.

Hot Springs has so many great restaurants. This year’s final evening was at Rolando’s for an Ecuadorian Feast.

THANKS to the committee chaired by John & Marilyn Davenport for planning the event and their generosity in hosting members and classic boats for this early spring kick-off to the 2024 Boating Season!

Goody bags by Mike made sure our needs for energy and hydration were taken care of.
Thanks Mike!

And before the day was over, Bill Snyder called in reservations for the next Heartland Classics event.

The Annual Spring Opener at Lake Hamilton, AR

The Hot Springs Classic is held in April each year to welcome boaters to the boating season. Event dates are determined by the calendar of the Easter holiday and when the Arkansas Derby Day is held.

In the past, this spring opener has included boating on Lake Ouachita, Lake Hamilton and a pre-event in Little Rock, AR.

Arkansas offers even more for travelers when attending this event such as; Garvan Gardens, Bathhouse Row, Hot Springs Mountain, museums, historic gangster hangouts, and more.
